Troubleshooting
The app cannot access Photos
Section titled “The app cannot access Photos”Open iOS Settings, find BoxBack, and allow Photos access. Then return to BoxBack and try choosing the screenshot or item photo again.
The camera does not open
Section titled “The camera does not open”Open iOS Settings, find BoxBack, and allow Camera access. If the device does not have a camera, choose an image from Photos instead.
A code was not detected
Section titled “A code was not detected”Code detection works best with clear screenshots. If BoxBack does not detect a code, you can still save the screenshot and show it from the return detail screen.
Reminders are not appearing
Section titled “Reminders are not appearing”Check that:
- Notifications are allowed for BoxBack in iOS Settings
- Reminders are enabled for the return
- The return-by date or pickup date is still in the future
Drop-off reminders fire three days before, one day before, and the morning of the due date. Pickup reminders fire at 8pm the night before and 9am on pickup morning.
Plus is not showing as unlocked
Section titled “Plus is not showing as unlocked”Open Settings, choose Manage Plus or Unlock Plus, and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the Apple account used to buy Plus.
Plus says unavailable
Section titled “Plus says unavailable”If the app says BoxBack Plus is not available to purchase right now, make sure the device can reach the App Store, wait a minute, and try again. Contact support if it continues.
iCloud sync is not updating
Section titled “iCloud sync is not updating”Check that:
- BoxBack Plus is unlocked
- iCloud is available on the device
- iCloud sync is turned on in BoxBack Settings
- The device has a network connection
If Settings says Sign in, sign in to iCloud on the iPhone. If it says Restricted, check iCloud restrictions on the device. If it says Needs attention, try Sync Now again after a minute.
Sharing invite does not open BoxBack
Section titled “Sharing invite does not open BoxBack”Household sharing needs BoxBack Plus, iCloud sync, and an iCloud account on both phones. The invitee should:
- Install BoxBack
- Sign in to iCloud on that iPhone
- Open the invite from Messages or Mail so iOS can hand it to BoxBack
If they already have local returns, BoxBack asks whether to merge or replace them when joining.
Invite message hangs or fails
Section titled “Invite message hangs or fails”If the share screen opens but Messages shows a loading spinner, close the share screen, confirm the device still has a network connection, and try Invite People again.
Add at least one return before inviting. An empty list cannot start a shared household.
I left a shared list or was removed
Section titled “I left a shared list or was removed”Leave Shared List restores your own returns on that iPhone. If the owner removes you, your own list comes back the next time BoxBack syncs.
If the issue continues, contact [email protected].
